Galveston Fishing Report - March

April 2, 2013

Well, the month of March ended with another great week of fishing in Galveston.  The Galveston Jetties continue to be the top producer of numbers of fish caught and size.  From full limits of Sheepshead to Giant Black Drum and Redfish - with a couple of 5 & 6 pound speckled trout being caught as well.  The sheepshead are still stacked up on the rocks for their annual spawn.  These fish make for a great battle on rod and reel, and also some very good table fare.  These fish are being taken with live shrimp with a number 1 'J' hook with a #2 split shot.  The specks that are being caught are taking the same bait.  Giant Bull Reds and Huge Black Drum are being tricked with fresh cracked blue crab fished on bottom with anything from a 3oz to a 10oz weight depending on current.  The best hook for this is a number 7 circle attached to a 2' 80lb mono leader.

Also, our Galveston Fishing Charters have found our boats in the back lakes catching great numbers of redfish.  Allot of these reds are just under the minimum 20" length limit - but sure do make great fun for kids to catch!  There is something magical to a youngster to watch a popping cork dissapear to only pull back and there be a great battle on the other end.  Captain Clint had a trip this past Saturday, and his party of 6 had over 40 redfish hit the deck!  Great fun for a family to get out on Galveston Bay and enjoy a Texas Spring Day on the water catching fish.  Flounder and Speckled trout are also being caught on these Bay and Marsh trips.

Spring Flounder Gigging is here as well in Galveston Bay!  If you have never tried one of these great night time adventures - check it out, you will be hooked!

Spring is here and the fishing is great!  Give us a call to book your trip!  Let Fishing Galveston TX be your one stop for any Galveston Fishing Charter needs!
